Machine Troubleshooting
MACHINE INSTALLATION: When installing the machine you should ensure that the bucks are centered in the chest, when the heads are closed the collar clamp assembly should be in the center of the cutout of the front pressing heads. If the buck is too far to the left then the machine should be shimmed under the left end of the machine, this will increase the travel of the buck. If the buck is too far right then you should shim under the center of the machine reducing the buck travel. If the buck is not centered then the shirts will be caught on the side cutout of the chests and may cause damage to the garment.

DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUITS:      All of the equipment manufactured today by Unipress has a built in diagnostic circuit. When a problem occurs the circuit will flash a code number on the timer panel, the problem can then be diagnosed by referring to the T101 section in the owners manual which will tell you what the error code means. The big advantage of this is that it reduces the down time on your equipment by not having to contact the factory or your local service rep to analyze the problem. Also in the "T" section of the manual there are various scenarios which detail out possible problems with the equipment and in turn list out the items to check that may be causing the problem.

MAGNETIC REED SWITCH: The electrical switches used throughout the machine are fixed on the cylinder casing each switch has a built-in contact. On the inside of the cylinders there is a magnetic strip which when this comes in line with the switch causes the contacts to close. Each switch has a red light on the body of the switch this lets you know whether the switch is active or not, on some older equipment the switch with the light may not work due to the polarity being incorrect but the switch will still operate. Inside the control box there is a light which corresponds to that particular machine switch function. The switches are adjustable by loosening off the allen screw and sliding the switch along the cylinder stay, to the correct position.

AIR VALVES:      The air control solenoid valves are located next to the control box and are easily accessible for maintenance or repair. Each of the valves which are electrically operated have a manual override button on the valve, this allows you to troubleshoot each valve independently. If the valve should stick then the repair is very simple. After turning off the air remove the retaining ring on the end of the valve body and remove the plastic cap and valve spool. Clean the valve spool and O rings in soapy water rinse and dry, recoat the spool with a thin coating of either Teflon grease or silicon grease. All of the air lines on the machines are color coded for ease of tracing circuits.

SHOCK ABSORBER: The shock absorber is designed to cushion the transfer of the machine and to help in the smooth travel of the machine. The oil should come within 1/4" of the top lip of the shock casing, and should be filled with a Shell tellus 100 hydraulic oil or a premium grade 10W-40 oil. On the end of the casing of the shock are adjusting pins, which are for adjusting for the smooth operation of the machine. These pins should only be adjusted after the air pressure, shock oil level and flow controls have been checked. To adjust the pins the buck should be in the direction of travel for the pin to be adjusted, adjusting the pins when the buck is in the opposite direction could cause damage to the shock absorber. The pins should only be adjusted 1/4 turn each time until the ideal setting is reached, adjusting the shock pin in too far can cause internal damage to the shock and ultimate failure.

MACHINE PADDING:      The padding on the machine determines the quality of the product produced, padding that has deteriorated will not produce a quality garment. The steel pad should be changed after about 200,000 presses. The air bag should be changed when the bag can no longer hold a minimum of 2 psi, when changing air bags make sure that you reduce the pressure to 0 psi before running the machine and then adjust the pressure, if the pressure is not reduced the new bag may over inflate and tear. The flannel and cover should be replaced when there are signs of deterioration of the cover fabric, or when the bag is changed whichever comes first.
